When do employees get the overnight stay allowance?

Employees are paid an allowance every time they are asked to stay overnight to help guests outside of ordinary business hours.

The allowance is paid for the overnight stay and for up to 1 hour of work during the stay.

What happens when an employee works for more than 1 hour?

Employees get paid 150% of their ordinary hourly rate for all time worked over 1 hour.

Employees don’t get paid any other rates for doing this work, such as weekend penalty rates or casual loadings.

Are hours worked during an overnight stay overtime?

No. Hours worked during an overnight stay don’t count for hours of work, overtime or accumulating leave.

Is an overnight stay the same as an overnight shift?

No. An employee who works an overnight shift is paid for all hours worked.
