There are currently proceedings before the Federal Court which consider whether the Vehicle Award, rather than the Retail Award, covers employees of car rental businesses performing certain duties in retail premises.

Please check back regularly for updates.

Retail Award

The Retail Award covers employees of car rental businesses who:

  • organise bookings, receive payments and sell extra products or services to customers, including in a call centre
  • work as car washers and detailers
  • do clerical work at the retail establishment, for example the shop front where you hire the vehicle.

See K600025 Award coverage for online and phone retail sales assistants for more information about retail establishments.

Clerks Award

The Clerks Award covers employees of car rental businesses who do clerical work away from the retail establishment, for example in the head office.
