An office plant care business may provide one or more of the following services in an office:
- plant supply (sale or hire), with care and maintenance
- plant watering
- care and maintenance of plants.
Industry award coverage
An industry award can cover an office plant care business if:
- the business operates within the industry defined in the award
- there's a classification that covers the work of employees.
Cleaning Award
The Cleaning Award covers a contract cleaning business that waters and maintains plants in office buildings as an additional service to cleaning.
An employee watering and caring for plants is classified as a Level One.
Retail Award
The Retail Award covers a business that provides maintenance and care for the plants it supplies to office buildings.
An employee who is based at a retail establishment and provides plant care in office buildings will be classified as a Level 1.
No industry award coverage
If an employee of an office plant care business isn't covered by an industry award, they may be:
- covered by an occupational award, like the Clerks Award
- covered by the Miscellaneous Award, or
- award free.
For example, a receptionist working in the head office of an office plant care business that's not a retail business will be covered by the Clerks Award.
Miscellaneous Award
Plant care employees working for an office plant care business that's not a contract cleaning company or a retail business will be covered by the Miscellaneous Award.
Award free
An employee of an office plant care business who isn't covered by an industry or occupational award, or the Miscellaneous Award, is award free.
Award free employees are entitled to the national minimum wage and the National Employment Standards.
