The award that covers a mechanical fitter depends on:
- the industry or industries their employer operates in
- the specific role and responsibilities of the employee.
Industry award coverage
An industry award covers a mechanical fitter if:
- their employer operates in the industry defined in the award
- there's a classification which matches the employee's duties and qualifications.
For example, a mechanical fitter may be covered by one of the following industry awards:
- Alpine Resorts Award
- Building and Construction Award
- Manufacturing Award
- Seagoing Award
- Stevedoring Award
- Vehicle Award.
No industry award coverage
Mechanical fitters not covered by an industry award are covered by the Manufacturing Award on an occupational basis.
Example
Sebastian is a mechanical fitter. He works for a business that makes soft drinks.
The business is covered by the Food and Beverage Manufacturing Award, because it’s in the beverage manufacturing industry.
The Food and Beverage Manufacturing Award doesn’t have a classification for a fitter.
This means Sebastian is covered by the Manufacturing Award.
