If an employee requests an additional copy of their pay slip, their employer isn’t required to give it to them.

However, if an employee’s request is reasonable, their employer should consider whether they can provide the pay slips.

Example:

Ken wants to apply for a personal loan. He needs to provide copies of his 2 most recent pay slips with the loan application, but he hasn’t kept them.

Ken asks his employer, Josie, for copies of his last 2 pay slips. Josie knows that it won’t take long to reprint the pay slips. She agrees to give them to Ken.

Records

Tip:

Pay slips may be different from employee records, which have different requirements.

Employers are required to keep employee record information such as pay, leave and hours of work. For more information on record keeping obligations see Record-keeping and pay slips.
