Adult apprentices are paid the higher of:
- the ordinary hourly rate for a Construction worker level 1 (level a), plus the industry allowance, or
- the relevant apprentice ordinary hourly rate for their apprenticeship, plus the allowances that make up that ordinary hourly rate.
Adult apprentices employed before the apprenticeship
When an adult apprentice working for the same employer starts their apprenticeship, their ordinary hourly rate can’t be less than what it was before the apprenticeship started.
Minimum employment periods apply for building and construction or civil construction employees starting an apprenticeship. They must have worked for their employer for a minimum of:
- 6 months full-time or daily hire, or
- 12 months part-time or as a regular casual.
