Employees who aren’t working in out-of-school hours care

The first aid allowance is paid for a full day even if an employee only works a part day.

This means that calculating the allowance is the same for employees working full days and part days.

Employees working in out-of-school hours care

The allowance is paid on an hourly basis.

The amount the employee gets paid depends on the number of hours they work each day.

Do all employees get paid the first aid allowance?

No. Employees can only get paid the first aid allowance if they are a Level 2 classification or below.

Example

Bobbi is a Level 2 part-time employee who works in a long day care centre. He gets the first aid allowance.

Each week Bobbi works 8 hours on Tuesday and 5 hours on Wednesday.

Bobbi gets the same allowance amount for both days even though he only works a part day on Wednesday.
