Employees covered by the Funeral Award get paid an allowance for each period they're required to stand-by.

The amount of the allowance is different depending on whether they're required to stand-by:

  • between the normal finishing and starting time Monday to Friday
  • on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday.

To find out the amounts of the stand-by allowance, use our Pay and Conditions Tool.

The stand-by allowance is also paid when they're required to be on stand-by for part of the time.

Example 1

Aadhya works on Monday and finishes at 5pm.  She doesn't work on Tuesday and she returns to work at 9am Wednesday. She’s required to be on stand-by from 5pm Monday until 9am Wednesday.

Aadhya is entitled to be paid the Monday to Friday stand-by allowance amount for each overnight period on Monday and Tuesday. This means she'll receive 2 payments of the allowance.

Example 2

Camillo works on Friday and finishes at 5pm. He’s required to be on stand-by after finishing work until 4pm on Saturday.

Camillo is paid the Monday to Friday stand-by allowance amount for the stand-by period between 5pm and midnight on Friday.

He also gets paid the Saturday stand-by allowance amount for the stand-by period  from midnight Friday until 4pm on Saturday.
