The Broadcasting Award has 8 grades within 3 bands of journalist classifications.

For a journalist to progress to the next grade, their employer has to consider whether there’s been:

  • an increase in the use of their professional judgement
  • an increase in skills
  • a decrease in the supervision the journalist needs.

If the employer’s satisfied that all of these things have happened, the journalist will move to the next grade.
