Award coverage for fruit and vegetable packers depends on:

  • the industry or industries their employer operates in
  • the specific duties and qualifications of the employee.

Industry award coverage

An industry award covers fruit and vegetable packers if:

  • their employer operates in the industry defined in the award
  • there's a classification which matches the employee's duties.

For example, fruit and vegetable packers may be covered by one of the following industry awards:

Horticulture Award

The Horticulture Award covers employers in the horticulture industry and their employees packing fruits and vegetables. It doesn’t matter where the packing is done.

Example

Binh packs fruits and vegetables at a packing shed for a fruit and vegetable grower. The packing shed is located away from the farm.

The business is in the horticulture industry covered by the Horticulture Award.

The Horticulture Award has a classification for a packer.

Binh is covered by the Horticulture Award.

Food and Beverage Manufacturing Award

The Food and Beverage Manufacturing Award can cover employers in the food, beverage and tobacco manufacturing industry and their employees who chop, prepare and pack fruits and vegetables.

Storage and Wholesale Award

The Storage and Wholesale Award can cover employers in the storage services and wholesale industry and their employees packing fruits and vegetables.

No industry award coverage

Fruit and vegetable packers not covered by an industry award are covered by the Miscellaneous Award. They'll be classified according to their duties and qualifications.
