Casuals get different pay rates depending on when they work.

Ordinary hours
Monday to Friday
Casuals get paid their minimum hourly rate plus 25% casual loading for ordinary hours worked between 7am and 9pm.
Casuals get paid 150% of the minimum hourly rate for ordinary hours worked before 7am and after 9pm. They don’t get paid casual loading for these hours.
Saturday
Casuals get paid 158% of the minimum hourly rate for ordinary hours worked between 7am and 6pm. This includes their casual loading.
This rate was phased in between 3 November 2021 and 31 December 2023 as follows:

Example
Aaron is a casual Level 3 hairdresser.
He worked between 9am and 5pm on a Saturday in June 2022.
Aaron was paid 143% of the minimum hourly rate for the hours he worked.
Sunday
Casuals get paid 225% of their minimum hourly rate for ordinary hours worked at any time on Sunday. This rate includes their casual loading.
This rate was phased in as follows:

Public holiday work
Casuals get paid 250% of the minimum hourly rate for all hours worked on public holidays.
Casuals don’t get paid casual loading on a public holiday.
Overtime
Casuals get overtime when they work:
- more than 38 ordinary hours per week, or more than 38 hours per week averaged over a roster cycle
- more than 10.5 hours per day.
Overtime rates for casuals include their casual loading.
Monday to Saturday
For overtime worked at any time Monday to Saturday, casuals get paid:
- 175% of the minimum hourly rate for the first 3 hours
- 225% of the minimum hourly rate after 3 hours.
Sunday
For overtime worked at any time on Sunday, casuals get paid 225% of their minimum hourly rate.
