Only driving school children to and from school
Casual school bus drivers get at least 2 hours pay for each trip. This applies when they are only required to transport children to school in the morning and/or from school in the afternoon.
Example
Claudia is a casual school bus driver who picks up children and drops them off at school between 7am and 8am.
She then picks them up and drops them home between 3pm and 4pm.
She gets 2 hours pay for each trip, even though each trip only takes 1 hour.
She gets a total of 4 hours pay for the day.
Combination of school bus runs and other charter work
Casual drivers that transport school children to and/or from school and performs other driving work won’t get the 2 hours minimum pay per trip.
They will get a minimum payment of 3 hours for the shift instead.
Example
Gary is a casual bus driver who picks up children and drops them off at school between 7.30am and 8.30am.
After he finishes the morning school bus run, Gary drives directly to the nearby retirement village to pick up residents and drops them off at the local shopping centre. Gary finishes work at 10.00am.
Gary gets a minimum of 3 hours pay for the shift even though he only works 2.5 hours, from 7.30am to 10.00am.
