Conditions and entitlements for apprentices vary from award to award.

Many awards say that employers need to pay any compulsory fees and charges related to the training. These fees are set by the registered training organisation (RTO) and can include:

  • costs of providing the training
  • course and assessment materials
  • built in costs for textbooks.

Depending on the RTO, there may be one fee charged for a course, or separate fees for different items.

Fees that aren’t compulsory don’t have to be paid by the employer. Examples include car parking, photocopying cards or extra materials.

Check the award to see what applies in each industry.
