Employees can take carer’s leave to care for or to support a member of their immediate family or household, who has an unexpected emergency.

Unexpected emergencies aren’t limited to illnesses or injuries.

Example

Felix’s child Annie attends primary school. A friend usually picks her up from school.

Felix’s friend couldn’t pick her up and he was unable to arrange someone else.

Felix takes carer’s leave to pick Annie up from school.
