Continuous service is the length of time an employee has been employed by a business.

What if an employee is re-employed by the same employer after a being terminated?

Termination of employment breaks continuous service.

This means that service before the termination won’t count towards continuous service if they’re re-employed by the same employer.

Are there any exceptions?

An award, agreement or contract of employment may include terms that require an employer to recognise continuity of service.
