Casuals being paid a supported wage get:

  • a percentage of the minimum hourly rate for their classification
  • the full casual loading.

The minimum hourly rate for their classification and their casual loading are set by:

  • the award that applies to their work
  • the registered agreement that applies to their work, or
  • the national minimum wage.

The employee’s assessed work capacity determines what percentage of the minimum hourly rate they’re paid.

Example

Jenny is a casual employee being paid a supported wage. The minimum hourly rate for an adult in her classification under her award is $30 and the casual loading is 25%.

Jenny’s work capacity has been assessed by a qualified independent assessor at 60%.

Jenny gets 60% of $30 per hour plus the full 25% casual loading. Jenny’s casual pay rate is $22.50 for each hour she works.

If there are no Supported Wage System provisions in the award or registered agreement, an employee with disability must be paid the full minimum hourly rate for their classification.
