An escort vehicle driver drives an escort or pilot vehicle to accompany over-dimensional vehicles transporting goods to their destination.
They usually don't haul, distribute, load or unload any type of goods.
Most escort vehicle drivers are covered by the:
- Road Transport Award, or
- Road Transport (Long Distance) Award if their employer is in the private transport industry and driving long distances.
A long distance is:
- a return journey of more than 500 kilometres
- an interstate journey, from one state or territory to a different state or territory, of more than 200 kilometres.
Escort drivers may be covered by another industry award that covers their employer, if there’s an appropriate classification.
