Award coverage for display home employees depends on:

  • the industry or industries their employer operates in
  • the specific duties and qualifications of the employee.

Display home employees work at a display home and include:

  • salespersons selling house and land packages
  • salespersons selling contracts to build homes
  • display home hosts.

Industry award coverage

An industry award covers a display home employee if:

  • their employer operates in the industry defined in the award
  • there's a classification which matches the employee's duties and qualifications.

For example, the Real Estate Award can cover a salesperson selling house and land packages if their employer is in the real estate industry.

No industry award coverage

Display home employees not covered by an industry award are covered by:

  • an occupational award, such as the Clerks Award, or
  • the Miscellaneous Award.

Clerks Award

The Clerks Award can cover a display home employee if their role is mainly clerical or administrative.

Employees are classified based on their duties, skills and training.

For example, the Clerks Award can cover a display home host. The duties of a display home host may include:

  • meeting and greeting people at display homes
  • walking people through display homes
  • discussing the company’s products and services
  • taking the customers details and pass them onto a salesperson.

A display home host doesn’t do any sales duties such as:

  • selling house and land packages, or
  • selling contracts to build homes.

Miscellaneous Award

Display home employees not covered by an industry or occupational award are covered by the Miscellaneous Award. They’ll be classified based on their duties and qualifications.

For example, the Miscellaneous Award can cover a salesperson only selling contracts to build homes. They’re not covered by the Real Estate Award because their employer is not in the real estate industry as they’re not selling real property, such as an existing house or land.
