Employers can choose to pay a loaded rate to some full-time adult employees classified at Level 3 or above.

The loaded rate applies instead of:

  • certain overtime payments
  • certain penalty rates (but not public holiday penalty rates)
  • the split shift allowance when the break in a split shift is between 2 and 3 hours.

Loaded rates can’t apply to employees who are:

  • part-time
  • casual
  • classified at introductory level, Level 1 or Level 2
  • paid junior rates
  • paid a supported wage
  • working in catering in remote locations
  • working a roster of 160 hours, 8 days off, plus an accrued day off each 4 week period.
