When a business sells goods for other businesses to use, such as stationery, it’s a retail business.

Work at a retail store

The Retail Award covers employees who work at a retail store and do the following jobs:

  • clerical and administrative work, such as processing email orders and telephone enquiries
  • warehousing work, such as picking and packing orders for delivery
  • delivery work, such as delivering customer orders from the retail store.

Work away from a retail store

If the business doesn’t have a retail store or the employees work away from the store, they will be covered by the following awards:

  • the Clerks Award covers clerical and administrative work
  • the Storage and Wholesale Award covers warehousing work
  • the Road Transport Award covers delivery work, such as delivering customer orders from a warehouse which isn’t at a retail store.
