A showroom is a space where goods are displayed for sale or demonstration.
Showrooms can be used in any industry that sells, hires or demonstrates goods.
Award coverage for an employee working in a showroom depends on:
- the industry or industries their employer operates in
- the environment in which the employee normally works
- the employee’s duties and responsibilities.
Industry award coverage
Retail Award
The Retail Award covers showroom employees if their employer operates within the general retail industry. This includes the sale or hire of goods to individuals or businesses for their personal, household or business use.
Example
Mirco is a shop assistant in a furniture store showroom.
He sells furniture to customers, merchandises the store and provides information to customers on the items the store stocks.
Mirco is a level 1 retail employee under the Retail Award.
Storage and Wholesale Award
An employee who demonstrates or sells goods from the showroom of a wholesaler is covered by the Storage and Wholesale Award.
Example
Zerujah works for a party goods wholesaler. Her employer has a showroom in which samples of all the goods are displayed for retailers to look at, handle and choose what they would like to buy for sale in their retail stores.
Zerujah finds out what customers are looking for, provides them information, demonstrates the goods, processes the paperwork for orders and sales.
Zerujah is a wholesale employee level 1 under the Storage and Wholesale Award.

The Retail Award will cover most showroom employees.
